Milking the cows

Hello cows!

8 friendly looking cows are grazing the area and provide the hospital with fresh milk every day. As I wrote earlier, the milk is served along with the breakfast, and you can thus enjoy a warm chai latte with milk almost straight from the cow. The cows are milked 2-3 times a day, and when it’s time, the cows go by themselves to the small shed, where the milking takes place.

Milking by me.

I was curious about the milking, which is done manually, so yesterday I went to have a look at the procedure. I also got the chance to try milking a cow myself.

All the cows have names, which they respond to, and John, who looks after the cows, told me that they also have a certain sequence for the milking. If any of the cows breaks the sequence, the other cows will object.

Milking done by a pro.

It sure was a lot of fun. The smell wasn’t even that bad because we were outside.
